Questions and answers about the Diamond Burial
Yes - the Algordanza memorial diamond shows the same physical, chemical and optical properties as a natural diamond. In our production site in Switzerland we recreate the natural formation conditions. Thus, your individual Algordanza Memorial Diamond can grow.
How much does this unique form of remembrance cost?
Our service starts from $3,699 CAD. Size and cut of your memorial diamond determine the price.
Does the size (weight) of the diamond depend on the amount of used remains?
No - the size of the diamond depends on the duration of the process. The longer the diamond lasts in the growing phase, the bigger it becomes.
How many ashes do you need for the process?
On average, the cremation of an adult human being generates 2.5 kg of ashes. We need at least 500g of these ashes for the synthesis.
What happens to the rest of the remains?
If you do not desire a traditional burial, we leave the remains as long in the process as it takes to transform the entire ashes. Otherwise, we return the remaining ashes to the funeral home in order to entomb them.
Does carbon still exist within cremation ashes?
During cremation, the majority of carbon escapes as carbon dioxide. Inside the cremation ashes remains a carbon concentration of 1-5%. We are able to extract the carbon from the cremation ashes. This carbon will be the basis for the following diamond synthesis.
What does Algordanza guarantee with the certificate?
With our certificate, we guarantee the authenticity, weight, cut and colour of the diamond as well as the origin of the diamond from the cremation ashes given to us.
Can I have more than one diamond from the same ashes?
Yes, we are able to create more than one diamond from cremation ashes of an adult. We can specify the number of possible diamonds after detailed analyses of the ashes in our laboratory.
Are there laws indicating that a memorial diamond has to be interred?
No, there are no legal barriers indicating a necessity to inter a Memorial Diamond. The process-related transformation of ashes does not leave behind remains that are obliged to be interred. Additionally, the creation process of a Memorial Diamond is liable to Swiss law.
How long does it take until I can hold my diamond in my hands?
The synthesis takes about 6 - 9 months beginning from the date of reception of the remains and the receipt of the prepayment. Nevertheless, the synthesis of a diamond is a highly complex process. In some cases, it can take more time. We assure you that quality and precision are our first priority.
Why do the diamonds have different bluish shades?
The colouration depends on the element boron within the diamond. The more boron is bound to the carbon grid the more intense is blue colouration. We do not affect the colouring of the diamond. The unique blueish colouration emphasizes the uniqueness of your personal Memorial Diamond.
Is it possible to synthesize a diamond even if the person has died and been cremated a while ago?
Yes - the age of the ashes is not relevant for the synthesis.
The ALGORDANZA Pre-Need Warranty
With the Algordanza Pre-Need Warranty, you are able to arrange your diamond burial wish in lifetime. You acquire the right for your beneficiaries to receive a memorial diamond from your remains according to your wishes.
I have the right of termination in a Pre-Need contract within four weeks of signing. If I make use of this right, do I have to pay anything?
No. We granted you the termination right within a four-week period and it is therefore unconditional.
What if I wish to terminate my Pre-Need warranty contract upon expiry of the four-week period?
Unilateral termination after four weeks is not possible. You placed an order, which we accepted and therefore we entered into an obligation. In exceptional cases, please contact us and we'll endeavour to find a solution.
Who gets a copy of the Warranty Certificate? Who informs Algordanza of my passing?
You will receive one copy of the warranty certificate and Algordanza keeps another copy. In addition, we provide the nominated trustee with a copy, which secures your right to full disclosure. It is incumbent upon yourself to instruct the beneficiaries of your warranty and/or your funeral director to inform us of your passing. As a safeguard in this respect, we recommend that you arrange with a funeral director ahead of time so that they are mentioned in the warranty certificate and be provided with a copy for their records. Please be informed that it is general practice to open the will after the funeral and burial - by which time it may be too late to execute the Pre-Need warranty. Therefore, we recommend storing declarations of intent and our warranty along with all your other personal documents, which are normally accessed first by those entrusted to make the funeral arrangements.
What happens if the beneficiary cannot, or will not, transfer the final payment?
As the contract was signed between yourself and Algordanza, we cannot pressure the beneficiary to make the final payment, even if it was your expressed wish. To avoid such situations, we strongly recommend that you opt for the VG 100 contract, whereby you pay all of the costs upfront and the beneficiary can receive the Memorial Diamond without hindrance of any sort.
What happens if the Algordanza company is no longer in existence by the time of my passing?
Algordanza is active in more than 25 countries and has been in existence for more than a decade. Its finances are sound and an experienced management team leads it. Therefore, there is little chance of the company failing. In the extremely unlikely event that the company does cease to exist due to unforeseen circumstances, your Pre-Need payment is secured because of its deposit in a fiduciary-controlled account and is therefore safe from any third party or special interest claims.
